Saklikent National Park is open year-round, but the full canyon experience is strictly seasonal. If you want to step off the boardwalk and walk the 4-kilometer riverbed route, you must time your visit for the dry summer months.

When is the best time of year to hike Saklikent Gorge?

The best time to hike is from May to October.

During these summer months, the Karaçay River water levels decrease. This allows visitors to walk upstream safely. The park operates on extended summer hours, typically opening from 08:45 to 19:30 during peak season.

Is Saklikent Gorge open in winter?

The national park is open, but you cannot hike the riverbed.

Winter brings heavy rains and melting snow, causing the river to rise dangerously. The inner canyon is completely closed to wading during these months. You can still access the 200-meter suspended boardwalk and the riverside cafes.

How cold is the water in summer?

The water remains a freezing 5°C to 8°C (41°F to 46°F) even in July.

The icy temperature is constant throughout the year. The initial river crossing is deep and fast. Wading through this frigid water is popular in summer to escape the high temperatures in nearby Fethiye.

What time of day should I arrive?

Arrive early in the morning, around 08:45, to avoid peak crowds.

Tour buses and jeep safaris usually arrive by mid-morning. An early start gives you space to walk the route without heavy traffic. Bring a warm layer for the morning, as the canyon floor is shaded and cold.

When do the jeep safaris run?

Jeep safaris operate daily throughout the summer season.

Tours from Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, and Kalkan run from May to October to align with the low water levels. These 8-hour trips include water fights, so hot summer weather makes the open-top ride comfortable.

Summer vs. Winter: What can you do?

Summer allows full access, while winter restricts you to the entrance area.

Your experience changes drastically depending on the season. If you visit in winter, expect a short 15-minute stop on the boardwalk. Summer allows for 1 to 2 hours of hiking up the gorge.
